PTA

Who are we?

We are the Parents Teachers Association for Ysgol Gymraeg Pen-y-Garth. We are a group of volunteer parents and teachers who work together to continue to make YPYG a great place for children to learn.
We want to bring parents, teachers and children together to raise funds for the school and strengthen the school community. Our PTA is very much at the heart of our school community.

Our principles

• Everyone gets involved – at whatever level they can afford in terms of time or money
• Use the strengths, skills and valuable people resources we have within our families
• Encourage use of the Welsh language within and outside the school

In 2023, the PTA raised approximately £3K through our Easter Egg Hunt, Sports Day Refreshments, Summer Festival, Christmas Card Project, Christmas Jumper Sale and our Christmas Toy Stall.
With this and funds from previous years, we are funding the following:
• Fencing for Key Stage 1
• The climbing frame
• Ice pops for sports day
• Year 6 leavers gifts

In 2023/24, we hope to raise more money to support the Key Stage 2 summer musical, educational materials, learning resources (including reading books) and equipment for outdoor learning areas. Our target for 2023/24 is £5K.

Want to get involved?

Come and get involved! There is no expectation on any parent volunteer, any amount of time you can give to the PTA will always be well received.
There are a variety of ways you can get involved, from engaging with social media activity, attending PTA meetings through to volunteering at events or coordinating events.

You can support our PTA events by coming along and can also make an ad hoc donation via ParentPay anytime by donating to the ‘PTA Wish List.’
Even donating preloved items, raffle prizes or suggesting brilliant ideas are ways of getting involved. We really appreciate your support!

PTA Committee Roles

Our PTA committee includes:

• Chairman (Harriet Brewster)
• Vice-chairman (Hayley Church)
• Secretary (Helen Grindell) and;
• Treasurer (Miranda Agius)

This committee is a legal requirement of our charitable status and is nominated annually at our Annual General Meeting (AGM).

We have a PTA parents group with about 30 members and we plan our program through PTA meetings and WhatsApp. Amongst the PTA parent group, we also have a host of regular volunteers who organise and support our program of fundraising events. We also have a teacher liaison (Ms Bliss) and we work closely with the Headteacher (Ms Pugh).
